FROW Magazine

During my internship at FROW Magazine, a local fashion, beauty, and lifestyle magazine based in Birmingham, I served as a junior writer. Through varied articles, I quickly learned FROW’s tone of voice and understood its audience and who I was writing for. With a target audience aged 18-35, I ensured my articles remained informative yet conversational, evoking a sense of editorial efficiency while honouring FROW’s open tone. My time at FROW gave me insight into the industry and allowed me to work in a fast-paced environment, collaborating with the news and PR team. Each day, I introduced new topics that were discussed and assigned to me, which later became compelling articles.

FROW’s editor and founder, Leanna Grant, gave me access to the magazine's digital back office, allowing me to contribute to the online magazine. This was a great experience, as it gave me a preview of what curating an online article outside of a Word document can look like, while also giving me more responsibility and a personal platform to share my voice. Leanna was an inspiring editor. With her critiques, my articles improved, and I began incorporating more of my personal tone of voice, which Leanna also wanted.

My time at FROW made my decision to pursue a career in fashion journalism more certain. The curiosity this role sparked in me felt empowering. Writing about brands from GUCCI to CHANEL felt empowering for both readers and me. When my internship ended, although I was offered a permanent position, I had to decline due to timing. I am grateful for the strong experience and luxury insight this position provided. This was a stepping stone toward the career I am now striving for.
