Outlier Magazine

Outlier is an editorial magazine that highlights those who stand against social norms. It celebrates the beauty of standing out, bringing couture styling into everyday life. Alongside a short fashion film, this project captures the art behind authenticity. The placement of unknown styling in mundane locations isn’t often recognised, but in Outlier, these looks are spotlighted with confidence and sophistication.

This magazine was built on the common misconception that fashion is made to fit in. Yet fashion was never meant to become one; it was made to stand out. Creativity and expression have faded in contemporary society. Outlier was created to bridge the gap between what we see as runway-realistic and routine ideals. By breaking those boundaries, raw reactions were captured and silent questions confronted, whilst an outfit worn with character held more power than fading into the sea of society.

From print to short fashion film, Outlier spoke to more than just the fashion enthusiasts. This publication reached the hearts of those who merely want others to dress for themselves, not society. From the contemporary standards of classic graphic tee to a structured silhouette often placed in a high-end location, Outlier was made to inspire and provoke power into a society that lost its character. Outlier is reminding people who they are and how they should be without the whisper of a modernised social system.

Throughout this project, I had the pleasure of collaborating with emerging industry professionals, from models to photographers. Through this collaboration, I took over the roles of stylist, fashion journalist, editor and creative director, earning a First in this project. The outcome of Outlier became the inspiration for my personal curation of Sienna Magazine: a magazine made to empower and add character back into fashion journalism and the creative media.
